I'm so happy that Heidi asked me to share my weight loss story, because it has changed my life!  I'm a breast cancer survivor.  I was diagnosed in August of 2008, and underwent over 10 surgeries and 5 months of chemotherapy.  (I received my diagnoses during my first son's mission).  Before I was diagnosed, I wasn't in the greatest shape - I weighed too much, and I rarely exercised.  I didn't take care of myself. I think that we, as women, can all totally related to this - we are almost always concerned with taking care of everyone in the family except ourselves, right?

Back to the cancer journey… because chemotherapy has some terrible side effects, I had to take steroids to help during treatments.  Chemotherapy destroyed my muscle, and steroids packed on the fat.  Even though my weight didn't go up or down during my treatments, by the time I finished, I couldn't get into my clothes.  And I felt terrible - I had no energy and lots of fatigue, which made it REALLY difficult to exercise.

Fast forward 3 years… January 2012.  I met the nicest woman - Jan Paxman - at a breast cancer fair.  When she found out that I was the president of a local support group, she said "I'm an RN and a Certified Health Coach, and I have a program that I know would really help the survivors to gain back their health."  I was intrigued, so I scheduled her to do a presentation.  This is one of those moments in life, when you choose something that completely changes the outcome of your life.  I remember telling my husband before I left for our meeting… "I don't care what it is, what I have to eat, or do - I NEED HELP!  I can't keep feeling like I'm 80 years old when I'm only 45."  I was SO excited after hearing what she had to say.  I signed up that night!  I ordered my food, and I knew, even at that early date, that I wanted to be a health coach.  In just 28 weeks, I lost 87 pounds, and over 93 inches, and that was 2 years ago!  But, the most important change for me was my energy level - I feel SO great, and I have TONS more energy.  Finally, after 3 years of feeling awful, I took control of my health, and I've never felt better.  I've tried so many times to lose weight, and although I've been successful, it always comes back on.  On this plan, we learn how to fuel our bodies so that they will perform the way we want them to.  We learn the habits that we need to keep the weight off, and stay healthy forever!  This was the easiest eating plan I've ever done… the pounds just melted away.

For the past 2 years, I've been a health and weight loss coach, and I'm now certified through the MacDonald Center for Obesity Prevention and Education & Villanova University College of Nursing.  I've learned what makes our bodies happy, and work well, and I LOVE sharing this with other people.  I've been able to help over 150 people in the last 2 years to gain their health… and it just humbles me. This is the BEST JOB EVER!

Button Rukus

ButtonRukus comes from my fettish as a teenager with Pinback Buttons. This started as a way of me re-living my youth. Ha Ha I love quips, one-liners, and funny sayings that catch your attention. After only doing this for fun, my kids began getting involved and working with me.

Because I currently have TWO missionaries serving missions, it was just natural that the buttons merge into LDS missionary sayings, motivations, etc. The idea was that I would be able to support our missionaries through the button sales.

It has been a fun and inspiring ride so far and I feel like we are just getting started. I have so many ideas in my head to get into a magnet or pinback! Not to mention I love the inspiration my followers send me.
My most favorite creations are of those with personal pictures. I love when I'm walking past my own refrigerator or down my hall past the magnet board to catch my missionaries face looking at me. I'm one Proud Missionary Momma that's for sure.

Family History can be addicting. My SIL has caught the bug and can't seem to overcome her sickness... :) We have been blessed by her diligence to help in the work of family members. These are just some fun buttons that poke a little fun and thought at Family History.
